Today is the nine year anniversary of the terrorist attack that brought us to our knees.

On 9/10 of 2001 we all felt safe. That changed the next day. We we’re attacked on our own land and thousands of innocent lives were lost.

I had never been through anything like that in my life. I was twenty three, living on Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska. I remember my brother waking me up to tell me a plane had crashed into one of the twin towers. I got up and went to the television and watched in horror as the day unfolded.

An hour or so later, I was standing outside when I heard fighter jets flying over my house. They were accompanying Air Force One with the president and CNN just said the president was going to Stratcom. I was terrified that everyone knew where he was going and they would surely attack Offutt AFB. Thank God they didn’t.

This tragedy does not go away. It should not be forgotten. We should remember all those who lost their lives and remember their families that struggle everyday.

Here is a current picture of Lisa Beamer,  she has became the stoic face of a nation determined to survive. Beamer’s husband, Todd, was credited for uttering the famous phrase “Let’s Roll” as he and other passengers of Flight 93 attempted to stop the hijackers. Beamer and his family became a national symbol of pride, heroism, and patriotism in the days following the 9/11 attacks.
