What would you do with a ‘Hall Pass’?
Imagine if your spouse gave you a week off from marriage; one entire week to do whatever and whoever you wanted. What would you do? That’s the question that comic kings, the Farrelly brothers, pose in their new comedy, ‘Hall Pass’, starring Owen Wilson, Jason Sudeikis, Jenna Fischer, and Christina Applegate.
Set in Rhode Island (as are most the Farrelly brothers movies) but filmed in Atlanta this fast-paced comedy is sure to on your top ten list. The story kicks off when a psychiatrist, played by Joy Behar, suggests that the wives give their husbands a “hall pass” – one week to do whatever they want…and that’s when the laughter ensues. It’s a good mix of giggles and self-reflection as we watch these middle-aged characters begin to realize their stage in life. And amidst the comedy I found myself questioning, ‘what would I do’?
The film has plenty of classic moments and catch phrases that you won’t soon forget including , ‘spank bank’ ‘fake chow’ and another Farrelly trademark bathroom scene. (Who can forget Jeff Daniels in ‘Dumb & Dumber’ and Ben Stiller in ‘There’s Something About Mary’). There are also some over-the-top shock moments thrown in that will have you howling and squirming in your seat – be prepared to laugh and make your best ‘I can’t believe I’m watching this’ face.
For those in Atlanta, you’ll be able to pick out several hot spots including Gold Room, Johnny’s Hideaway, Fernbank, North Druid Hills Country Club, and Little Five Points. As an actor based in Atlanta it’s great to see my hometown being represented more and more on the silver screen.
All-in-all ‘Hall Pass’ is a witty giggle ride that actually makes you think about relationships and growing old. Don’t pass up the chance to see this creative clever comedy…and let us know what you’d do with your hall pass.
