This weekend, Hollywood will honor the creative and funny world of Animation.

Honoring excellence in the field of animation, Annie Awards will be presented in 26 categories including best animated feature, home entertainment, television production, television commercial, short subject, video game, as well as individual achievements. The 38th Annual Annie Awards will take place on Saturday, February 5, 2011, at UCLA’s Royce Hall, in Los Angeles, California. The Annie Awards will also be webcasted on, at a later date.

The Backstage Beat has found out, through our good friend Billy West, that Matt Groening is receiving the Winsor McCay Award. The Winsor McCay Award is a very special award given to individuals in recognition of lifetime or career contributions to the art of animation in producing, directing, animating, design, writing, voice acting, sound and sound effects, technical work, music, professional teaching, and for other endeavors which exhibit outstanding contributions to excellence in animation. The Winsor McCay Award stands as one of the highest honors given to an individual in the animation industry.  Matt Groening is best known for his two long time running and successful shows, The Simpsons and Futurama.   Presenting Mr. Groening with his award is Billy West and John DiMaggio.
