Sandra DeNise is an coming back to Atlanta on Tuesday April 26th to play the Sugar Plum Fairy in the musical Shrek!

We talked to her on the phone and learned about her and her role.  Also about this version of Shrek.  I can not wait to see it opening night with my family! We will be celebrating my daughter’s 8th birthday that day too!

Here is a little about Sandra:

Sandra DeNise was born in Atlanta, Georgia.  The daughter of Derry and Delores DeNise.  She was raised in Decatur and attended The Paideia School for 1st through 12th grade.  At a young age Sandra began performing, mostly by dancing around the living room to her records.  However,  she was soon guided by Nancy Oliver, children’s choir director at Peachtree Christian Church, to Rand Hopkins a local playwright and began performing in his musicals and taking acting and dancing lessons(Carol Walker Dance Academy and Barbara Bramble Dance Center).  Summers were spent at the Atlanta Workshop Players Performing arts Camp founded by Lynn Ellis Stallings.  At Paideia she performed in the high school musicals and was a member of the Madrigals singing choir directed by Kate Murray.

Sandra went on to be accepted to NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts where she studied at the Stella Adler Conservatory of Acting and CAP21.  While there, she performed in A Chorus Line, The Mystery of Edwin Drood and Kiss of the Spider Woman.  After graduating, she landed her big break and her Equity card by joining the 2nd National tour of Rent in 1999.  She subsequently toured with the shows Parade, working with Hal Prince and Jason Robert Brown, Saturday Night fever, Harispray(Penny Pingleton) directed by Jack O’Brien, Jersey Boys and Happy Days the Musical.

TV and Film Credits: Georgia Rule, That 70’s Show, Gilmore Girls, ER
