The newest feature to The Backstage Beat, Music and Fashion, combines the best of local music and fashion as seen and photographed by Perry Julien.

In this installment, we feature Amber Taylor from the local band “The Sexual Side Effects”.  She is photographed at The Drunken Unicorn, and is wearing clothing from Junkman’s Daughter in Little Five Points.

About The Sexual Side Effects

Fans can’t get enough of The Sexual Side Effects, an eclectic and electric alternative rock group from Atlanta drawing on the influences of post-punk and ‘70s glam rock. Front girl Amber Taylor’s on-stage antics and entrancing vocals mesh with the band’s melodic guitars to captivate audiences. Not even a year old, the band has already headlined street festivals, and played to sold out crowds. SSE has just been nominated for Best Alternative Band at the 2012 Georgia Music Awards. The band’s first music video is an official selection at the 2012 Atlanta Film Festival, and the band have attracted the attention of an acclaimed Hollywood director, who is directing their second video. The group has been touring to promote their debut EP, HIGH MAINTENANCE,  available for a free download on the band’s web site, www.thesexualsideeffects.com.

About Amber

I’ve always loved all kinds of music but a few genres have influenced me. Post-Punk, Goth music and darkwave make up a lot of my favorites as well as the glam rock of the ‘70s (not to be confused with hair metal of the 80’s). We have an event we throw a couple times a year called “Gilded Trash” and we showcase different bands from around different scenes that embody the spirit of David Bowie, Marc Bolan, Joan Jett and Brian Eno. It is a great excuse to get all made up and go swimming in glitter.

Amber’s Personal Style

It’s really easy to butch it up in Rock N Roll, especially when you’re always on the go, loading equipment, and rockin’ out. A lot of times I have a casual rock n roll style, but sometimes you have to glam it up. I will admit I don’t always glam it up nowadays, but every now and then I do. I have been in the goth scene for a long time too, and find it hard to not wear all black. Sometimes a color will sneak in there, but if it does I like it to have glitter with it. Not a lot of people know, but I was a professional dominatrix, for some time and I still like to rock fetish clothing for special events.
