Every Friday in March, the talented students from Peggy Still School of Music will be playing acoustic, singer-songwriter style sets at Scoops ice cream shop off Crabapple Road in Alpharetta from 3-5:30 p.m. This past Friday, Maddie Fornaris along with her younger sister Jill, and Jordan Keim played sets for music and ice cream lovers at Scoops. Both 16-year old girls love creating and playing music and attend Milton High School. They performed a combination of original songs and cover songs for the audience.

Maddie Fornaris

Maddie Fornaris opened up the afternoon by playing her guitar and singing while her 13-year old younger sister Jill played the keyboard. The budding musician has been attending music classes at the Peggy Still School for one year and especially enjoys being able to take guitar and song writing classes, which are not offered through the high school’s music program. Her favorite style of music is acoustic, singer/songwriter, noting influences such as Taylor Swift, Colbie Caillat, Tracy Chapman, and Maroon 5. Fornaris definitely had a very similar sound to Colbie Callait, which was refreshing and bubbly – perfect for a spring Friday afternoon. She hopes one day to possibly be a career musician, but until that time comes, Maddie says that she enjoys playing Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt shop, Cans Taqueria, and open mic nights around town.

Maddie Fornaris’s Playlist:
“The Other Side” – original song by Maddie Fornaris
“The Only Exception” by Paramore
“Brighter Than The Sun” by Colbie Calliat
“Perfect” by Pink
“Make you feel my love” by Bob Dylan
“A Thousand miles” by Vanessa Carlton
“Sunday Morning” by Maroon 5

Jordan Keim

Next up, Jordan Keim played her guitar and sang mostly original songs that she wrote for the show. Keim has been taking guitar since 6th grade, writing songs for six years, and singing for as long as she can remember. In addition, she has been taking lessons at Peggy Still School of music for the past three years. She loves acoustic, singer/songwriter style music and cites other band influences such as Maroon 5, Parachute, and The Script. One of her favorite things about writing songs is that she can express ideas and feelings that she might not want to talk about. Keim, with her angelic voice, hopes to keep pursuing her dreams as a performance musician for a long time in the future.

Jordan Keim’s Playlist:
“Misery” by Maroon 5
“Second Chances” – original song by Jordan Keim
“Stand By Me” by Ben E. King
“Misconception” – original song by Jordan Keim
“So Much For Secrets” – original song by Jordan Keim
“Yellow” Coldplay

The Peggy Still School of Music has three locations – Alpharetta, Woodstock/Marietta, and Atlanta. The school offers music lessons for children and adults in both classic and modern styles, specializing in one-on-one private sessions or semi-private sessions for a wide range of instruments (also including voice lessons, theatre, rock band camp, ensembles, and recording sessions). President Brian Johnson has big plans for the school and looks forward to showcasing students at festivals, Atlanta Braves Games, and at the Harlem Globe Trotters performance.
