In the silver twenty-fifth anniversary tour of Les Misérables, the glimmer of Broadway arrives at the Fabulous Fox through April 29.

Opening night was sold out and the rest of the run is close to forty-four hundred seats filled out of forty-five hundred seat house. The last time I saw that many people packed into the Fox Theatre was when Lady Gaga hit the stage.  She gathered her “little monsters”, just as Les Misérables speaks to the misfits and outcasts of its time.

Les Misérables is an absolutely fabulous tale about the vitality of the human spirit. It’s one of my favorite musicals of all time, with glorious new staging and dazzlingly re-imaged scenery inspired by the paintings of Victor Hugo.

It’s still one of the longest running musicals on Broadway. It opened in London in 1985 and on Broadway in 1987.

Les Misérables, based on the novel of the same by Victor Hugo, takes you to the streets of France into the underworld filled with unsavory characters.  However, as in most good stories, the stars shine and eventually the characters are able to discover hope, redemption, and triumph over the struggles of the human condition.

Even after twenty-five on Broadway, the story is fresh and the performers take it to the next level, with a dynamic mixed media and larger than life set.

Don’t miss a chance to experience one of the best Broadway musicals of all time.

Les Misérables can be seen at 8 p.m. April 24-27; 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. April 28 and 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. April 29 at the Fabulous Fox Theatre.
