In rocker Steven Tyler’s memoir, the first line starts out with a quote, “Life is short. Break all the rules, forgive quickly, kiss slowly, love truly, laugh uncontrollably, and never regret anything that makes you smile.”  One thing is for sure, burlesque makes me smile and my experience is it makes both sexes smile.

The ladies of Minette Magnifique (http://www.iheartminette.com/) are giving us a chance to smile as they kick off a show at the Warren Club on May 31.  This theme revolves around movies and the celebration of Hollywood.

Entertainer extraordinaire Darcy Lemmonier shared a few minutes in a phone interview about life inside the glamorous world of burlesque.

Darcy admits that she is on the inside shy, but her burlesque “family” gives her the encouragement to shine in the spotlight of the stage.

As to why the movie theme, Darcy exclaims it gave each of the performers a chance to celebrate their own favorites from Star Wars to Zorro.

She chose some classics in Clockwork Orange and Pulp Fiction. “Quentin Tarantino is one of my favorite directors” she coos as she enthusiastically shares insight into her creative process.

As to her own journey into burlesque, she began modeling and favored the old school pin-up girl image, when she suddenly was recruited to perform. She has some theatre background, but her joy comes from the interaction with the crowd, the fans, and her theatre family.

As to why a resurgence of burlesque, Darcy concludes “why not? It allows individuals to have a good time” and you will sure be guaranteed a good time at the Minette Magnifique Burlesque show.

When asked what she would outfit she would preserve if asked to donate to a time capsule. Darcy, ponders a bit and points out her “black pumps, a very nice lacy garter belt, and her favorite ruffled panties”.

As to why someone should check out the upcoming show, Darcy makes note that this show is “fun, sexy, exciting and everyone will have a good time.”

More than another performance, this spectacular is a celebration of community and all the things that make you smile.

The Minette Magnifique goes to the movies – a burlesque trip to film-  is scheduled for Thursday, May 31 at the Warren  City Club, always a sellout, don’t miss a chance to enter the darken world of the old school speak easy in the heart of Virginia Highlands.  First show at 9:15 PM, followed by a second act at 10:15 PM
