The old maxim goes, “we are born cold and hungry and then things get worse.”

The American ideal is that the top rise because they are the best and the brightest, this creates a field that makes completion ideal.

However Christopher Hayes in his book Twilight of the Elites: America after Meritocracy cuts to the chase, American is on a decline. Not only the nation but institutions that have always been considered solid, the financial world, the Catholic Church, the government.

Hayes points to some startling statistics that result from the dysfunctional intuitions that exist today.

He points to his own rise through meritocracy that enabled him to rise to the top and then cheat the system to enable the allies.  This short pull of elites is not moving into an inevitable oligarchy in which power rest with a small number of people.

America is stuck in a funk and Twilight of the Elites: America After Meritocracy digs deeper into the anecdotal diagnosis of how we got to this point.

This book is a first step in beginning an open dialogue that will ignite the spark of the needed change of course for our nation to find its way.
