Atlanta’s Theatrical Outfit presents a family-friendly musical show of short stories celebrating one of America’s earliest and least-known folk heroes. Written and directed by Rob Cleveland and starring Cleveland and Eric J. Little, the show acquaints audiences with High John the Conqueror, an African prince who was sold into slavery in the Americas. He become known for the clever tricks he played to evade his slave holders, always outwitting them. In fact, it’s said that the character Br’er Rabbit of Joel Chandler Harris’ Uncle Remus stories was inspired by High John and his antics.

About Theatrical Outfit:

Theatrical Outfit’s mission is to entertain, educate and enliven a major audience by producing classic and contemporary theater with an emphasis on work indigenous to the culture of the American South. They are dedicated to Atlanta-based artists of national caliber. Their emphasis focuses on the work of Southern writers and composers to tell the stories we know best. The themes of spirituality and racial understanding are particularly resonant in our culture, and they are committed to giving them dramatic voice in the heart of downtown Atlanta.
