With the holiday spirit in the air, musical artists Will Turpin and Amy Gerhatz are joining forces for Music For A Cause charity concert hosted by Rock By The Sea, a group that raises money for worthwhile causes through music on Saturday, December 1st at 7:00 PM at the Vinyl in Atlanta.
Will Turpin, co-founder of the multi-platinum group Collective Soul took time from his busy schedule to talk about music, life, and the Music For A Cause event.
Turpin contributes the William Dix classic “What Child Is This? to A Rock By The Sea Christmas: Volume Three, a charity CD series of Christmas classics and original tunes. This song “resonates with me because it asks a question. I find myself constantly asking questions about life. A Rock By the Sea Christmas offers financial assistance and healing through the power of music” emphasizes Turpin. This CD will be available at the concert.
As for what Turpin is up to now, he is busy in the music studio working and heavily involved in the group The Way. The Way is made up of local Atlanta musicians. This side group allows him to expand his creativity even though he is still linked to Collective Soul.
Hard to believe that Collective Soul will celebrate 20 years of music in 2014, and in anticipation, the band are organizing some never before released tracks and tunes in a box set. According to Turpin, there has been a resurgence of the Collective Soul sound since appearing on American Idol and in the Twilight movie soundtrack. “It’s cool to meet a whole new generation of fans that heard us and downloaded their music and discovered us and found out we are still around” notes Turpin.
Turpin’s musical influence comes from the Beatles to Pink Floyd, especially the psychedelic sounds. He has always had a memory of his love of music and having this gift. He still lives in McDonough, and growing up, his father had a recording studio. That is where Collective Soul actually met. Turpin states, “That’s a story within itself.”
As for how the music industry has changed, Turpin acknowledges how Facebook and Twitter has facilitated the means to communicate directly with his fans. As to his work ethic, every day he is inspired and wishes he could bottle up the magic of music making mystery in a bottle.
Turpin has a strong commitment to give back and his favorite philanthropies center around veterans, cancer. Hevalues using his musical talents to bring awareness to important causes.
“Every little bit helps!” exclaims Turpin as he looks forward to performing at Saturday’s event at the Vinyl in Atlanta. A portion of the proceeds will go to benefit the Pediatric Brain Tumor Program at Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital in Orlando, Florida. Turpin plans a forty minute set at the concert, which is rare opportunity to hear his sounds in a intimate venue like the Vinyl.
Turpin is currently chillin’ and enjoying the holidays as he continues to work on his craft and is excited to the new adventures that 2013 will surely bring.

The rocking lawyers competed for the title of Best Band and Best Original Song. After a night of music and dance, the Electric Bonfires were named Best Band. “Big Sleep Lies” by the Kevins was named Best Original Song and the band won a one day recording session at Tree Sound Studios.
