Manology: Secrets of Your Man’s Mind Revealed by Tyrese Gibson and Rev Run

As a single man, I am always on the lookout for books that reveal the inner secrets of a “good” relationship. This book aims to share the secrets from the “bro-code,” but it is really a chat between friends as they muse about women, relationship, and life.

Rev Run is known as the popular rapper and man of the cloth, and his successful reality television show Run’s House showcase his stable home. Actor and singer Tyrese is a reformed “man whore” who would do anything to consume his insatiable sexual appetite.  He is crude and to the point and these two unlikely individuals became friends after Rev Run sent out a tweet about fidelity.  Tyrese contacted Rev Run and shared his opposing views and which lead to an unlikely friendship, where Rev Run became Tyrese “mantor, ”his male “mentor.”

The book had promise, but it seems more of a give and take of the obvious. I was disappointed that there were no more projected themes that can be applicable for men or women.  I am surprised that these two men do write and preach to woman as it was the man’s power to persuade women in order to “bed” them.  In the end, it takes two to tango and my premise has always been that women always know how the evening is going to end. The book paints a portrait of the victim woman to the devious ways of the male mind.

The writing can be crude and explicit but makes for a tongue and check perspective on a very complex subject- the antics between men and women – one area that goes all the way back to Adam and Eve.  We still don’t know the truth and probably never will.

This book will make you think about your own perspective and as the authors note, “the bold truth isn’t pretty, but it’s better than living a lie.”
