The Little Dog Laughed at the Next Theatre Company

The Next Stage Theatre Company has masterfully taken hold at the Alley Stage and already put their mark by putting on a wide range of good productions in this intimate space.

I enjoy this local company, not only because it is close to my home, but also because the staff and crew makes you feel like part of the artistic family.  Greeting you at the door and welcoming you to your comfy seat.

The Little Dog Laughed was originally a one night engagement to serve as a fundraiser for the theatre company but it was so wildly successful they had a very limited weekend run.

This tale was about finding your groove. How do you create the balance from living your dreams and finding that true love with whom you can share all the intimacies that life has to offer?  Mitchell (Joe Arnotti) is struggling with this issue as he works on developing a promising career, but during the lows of the fast track to the top he tends to reaches out for intimacies, the closeness, the bond, the warmth.

Mixed in with reflective monologues from the female characters Ellen (Chandler Clark) and Diane (Alana Cheshhire) and the bold vulnerability of Alex (Clay Sasser), this fresh and insightful play is only one example how Next Stage Theatre Company is riding the pulse of life’s unexpected twists and turns. Their work enables the audience to connect with the characters and in turn a small part of themselves.

Next up is a production by their company in residence Out of Box Theatre with One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest from March 15-23 (www.OutOfBoxTheatre.com ) with a return to the Next Stage Theatre production of You are a Good Man, Charlie Brown from April 5-20.
