The title track from Janelle Monae’s 2013 release The Electric Lady finally—FINALLY—has a music video. Almost a year into her remarkable tour, Monae hits the singles circuit once more with “Electric Lady,” her groovy jam featuring the vocals of Solange. Ms. Knowles does not make an appearance in the Greek life themed video, though a star roster of amazing women appear as emeritus Electro Phi Betas singing along in futuristic photo screens on the wall—T-Boz, Erykah Badu, Esperanza Spalding, Monica, and future tour-mate Kimbra. Estelle and T.I. also make an appearance at the exuberant sorority party.

“Electric Lady” is the fourth single from the album, coming after “PrimeTime” way back last August.  The Electric Lady debuted at 5 on the Hot 200, but singles didn’t gain much traction despite Monae’s appearances on SNL and Letterman. 2013 was rough in general when it came to charting for black artists, but Monae still came out on top by being lauded as the year’s rising star.

Still, Janelle has been a busy electric lady, releasing a cover of “Heroes” for the World Cup, voicing in Rio 2, and planning the Golden Electric Tour with Kimbra in Australia (the May dates were cancelled due to an illness for Monae).

Check out the video below! Janelle Monae makes stops in Europe this month and returns stateside in October at the Treasure Island Music Festival in San Francisco.
