We dropped anchor for a while and watched as numerous other dolphins swam by, checking us out. It must have helped that my little scientist was calling to them.
As the sky got a little darker, we made our way to the other side of the river to a place Captain Bill said always had manatees feeding. He said, “Hey look, there is a Manatee footprint!” and sure enough in the water we saw a ripple that looked like a footprint. The manatees were close.
Carefully Captain Bill drive the boat over the area and we dropped anchor to get a close look. Now, in Florida, its illegal to touch a manatee, so you don’t get any ideas of learning over and touching one! You can however wait a little bit and they will come up to the surface to see you.
